Disaster Management & Risk Reduction
At Mauritius Red Cross Society, we are committed to strengthening community resilience and preparedness in the face of disasters.
Our Disaster Management and Risk Reduction initiatives focus on proactive strategies to mitigate risks, enhance emergency response,
and support recovery efforts.
Our Approach
We adopt a multi-hazard, community-centered approach to disaster management, ensuring that individuals, families, and institutions
are equipped to respond effectively. Our key areas of focus include:
- Preparedness & Early Warning Systems – Educating communities on disaster risks and response strategies.
- Emergency Response & Relief Operations – Mobilizing trained volunteers and resources during crises.
- Capacity Building & Training – Strengthening local disaster response teams and first aid capabilities.
- Sustainable Recovery & Resilience – Supporting long-term recovery efforts and rebuilding communities.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
We work closely with government agencies, local organizations, and international partners to implement disaster risk reduction programs. Through education, training, and advocacy, we empower communities to take an active role in disaster preparedness and
response.
National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework
Mauritius has established a National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, which provides a strong legal framework for
disaster governance. The Mauritius Red Cross Society plays a vital role in implementing this framework, ensuring community-led
disaster response efforts and supporting national emergency preparedness.
